Can’t get away long enough to pedal the whole Great Allegheny Passage and C&O Canal??? Here’s a great little weekend getaway, A Tale of Two Trails, that lets you experience both trails. We thought 35 miles per day would be a comfortable pedal but you can do more or less each day. Whether you’re a novice just starting out, or an experienced trail rider, we can adjust this package to meet your needs. Your stay will be at our B&B, The Inn On Decatur (www.theinnondecatur.net) at the confluence of the C&O Canal and the Great Allegheny Passage in our charming city of Cumberland, MD.

A Tale of Two Trails
(A Great Weekend Getaway)
Day 1: Arrive in Cumberland, MD; your lodging will be at our B&B, The Inn on Decatur; stroll downtown (2 blocks away) where you can enjoy dining and “Friday After Five” where live entertainment is provided at our open air pedestrian mall. Day 2: (32 miles) Rise to breakfast at our B&B, today you will pedal to Paw Paw, WV on the C&O Canal Towpath where you will travel through the 3,118 foot tunnel (bring a flashlight…it’s dark); I will pack one of my Hit the Trails lunches; we will pick you up at the other end of the tunnel; back to the Inn for lodging and an evening of relaxation; tonight you can enjoy entertainment at Canal Place or catch a live theatre performance at the Cumberland Theatre. Day 3: (32 miles) Another hearty breakfast starts your day; today we will shuttle you to the town of Meyersdale, PA where you will hop on the Great Allegheny Passage; from here on it’s a great downhill pedal back to Cumberland; today lunch is on your own; I suggest coming out at Frostburg for lunch and relaxation; back to Cumberland where you will pedal 4 short blocks back to the Inn
Package includes:
2 nights lodging, 2 breakfasts, 1 lunch and shuttle (2) days.
(This trip can be expanded on either or both days to lengthen the day’s journey.)
