Saturday morning: Awaken to a full breakfast at The Inn on Decatur; 11:15 AM it’s all aboard the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad for a train ride through Maryland’s majestic mountains; the 45 minute climb will take you from from 600 feet above sea level to 1900 feet to the city of Frostburg, MD; here you will enjoy lunch at the Trail Inn Café; consider a visit to the Thrasher Carriage Museum; home to over 50 antique carriages and sleighs; you may elect to take the train back to Cumberland; or you can pedal 17 miles back to Cumberland on the Great Allegheny Passage; a wonderful downhill pedal (your bikes can be loaded on the train for $5 extra); once in Cumberland you will pedal 16 miles to Oldtown MD; here you will be met at the trailhead and shuttled to River’s Edge Alpaca Farm…relax in the serenity of this lovely place and with your gracious hostess and owner Barb Buehl (when we visited Ms. Barb; our grandchildren want to stay with her)…your spacious tree canopy home will provide much rest from your busy day…your frig will be stocked with items of your choice for a hearty dinner (I will have all food brought in for you – various menus to choose from)…visit with the critters…dogs, cats, horses and of course, alpaca’s; if conditions are right you may be able to enjoy a campfire this evening.
Sunday morning: Breakfast will be an expanded continental breakfast…fruit, cereal, breads, muffins, yogurt, coffee, milk and juice; you will be shuttled back to the towpath…stop and enjoy your lunch in the small WV town of Paw Paw on your own…today’s 25 mile pedal will be to Little Orleans (just a spot on the map); your Innkeeper will arrive to take you to tonight’s lodging and will meet you at famous “Bill’s Place”…tonight you will lodge at the Buck Valley Ranch…this remote, rustic retreat is a piece of heaven (we took our grandchildren 2 years ago and they still ask about it)…there is an in-ground pool; so bring your bathing suits; lots of critters…Nadine and Leon will prepare for you a delicious dinner…unplug, unwind and step back in time.
Monday morning: Awaken to Leon cookin’ breakfast; this morning enjoy a horse trail ride if you like or you may elect to end your journey at this point.
