July 22-28 (Sunday – Saturday)
Day 1: Ohiopyle: Arrive in the town of Ohiopyle Pa; tonight you will lodge at the Yough Plaza Motel or a local guest house; dine at the Ohiopyle House Café; dining on the porch is very enjoyable.
Day 2: Ohiopyle: Today is your day to play on the river; all meals are on your own today; spend the day on the river on a white water rafting trip (calm to wild – Class 1 to Class 5); this is a full day trip with lunch provided by your outfitter; lodging a second night at the Yough Plaza Motel.
Day 3: Ohiopyle, PA to Rockwood, PA (28 miles): Breakfast at the Falls Market Inn; today pedal to the town of Rockwood; picnic lunches will be packed by the Falls City Market Inn; picnic at your leisure; tonight’s lodging will be at the Rockwood Trail House…great bike shop too; tonight dine at the Rock City Pub…family friendly.
Day 4: Rockwood, PA to Frostburg, MD (28 miles-18 miles gradual uphill; last 10 miles downhill): Enjoy a country breakfast at your B&B, lunches will be packed for you today; today’s pedal will take you to the Eastern Continental Divide (elevation 2,390 feet above sea level) from this point on, its downhill; tonight you will lodge in the mountain city of Frosturg; dinner on your own; a short uphill to town…there is a neat pub called “Wild Things” (family friendly), El Canelos’s (great Mexican) or the Princess Restaurant (comfort food) plus other restaurants (a Trail Town brochure will be provided).
Day 5: Frostburg, MD to Cumberland, MD (17 miles): Enjoy a full breakfast at the Trail Inn; more downhill today takes you into the city of Cumberland where you will land late morning…I will greet you and your family at the trail and shuttle you to enjoy Rocky Gap State Park…over 3,000 acres of public land and a 243 acre lake (Lake Habeeb); spend your afternoon swimming and soaking in the sun…volleyball, play grounds…it’s all there…we will pack a cooler full of YOUR favorite B-B-Q lunch items…whether it’s hamburger/hot dogs; ribs or chicken…we will satisfy your delight…just give us a list…you can prepare your own picnic when you want…if you are looking for adventure…Western Maryland Adventures can take you repelling, canoeing or kayaking (this pricing is not part of package) tonight lodge at Rocky Gap Resort…your Lakeview room(‘s) will afford a great view of the lake and woods…there is an indoor/outdoor pool; a campfire by the lake and structured children’s activities…dine in a casual setting at Signatures…enjoy indoor or outdoor dining.
Day 6: Cumberland, MD to Buck Valley Ranch via Little Orleans (mileage to be determined): Enjoy a breakfast buffet or full breakfast in the Dining Room at Rocky Gap; today’s pedal will be on the historic C&O Canal, you will be pedaling on what was once a towpath for mules who pulled Canal Boats from Cumberland to Washington, DC; I will pack a picnic lunch for you; you will lodge at the Buck Valley Guest Ranch; Nadine will prepare a full dinner (no franks and beans) this evening…the children will enjoy visiting the animals; horses, cats, dogs & bird; they also have a swimming pool for your use; remote and rustic this is great place for one-on-one time with your children…it’s a magical place…we took our grandchildren and never wanted to leave.
Day 7: Rise to breakfast at the Ranch; this morning your family will enjoy a horse back trail ride in the morning; there is an outdoor swimming pool; areas to walk and hike; depart at your leisure.
